An Italian Family
Sabatino Tartufi was founded in 1911 when Sabatino Balestra and his wife Giuseppina opened their first store in Umbria, Italy, and began the distribution of specialty food products. As fate will have it, their very own lands began to fruit truffles. Overwhelmed with passion for these unique gems of the kitchen, they started to hunt for truffles and develop high-quality truffle products for all of their customers to enjoy.

2014 – Largest Truffle
The largest truffle is a Tuber magnatum pico that weighed in at 1,786 g (62.99 oz) on 4 December 2014, down from a reported 1,890 g (66.66 oz), owing to evaporation, when it was found a week earlier in central Italy.
The champion truffle was sold by Sabatino Tartufi (Italy/USA) to a phone bidder from Chinese Taipei at Sotheby’s New York auction house on 6 December 2014 for $61,250 (£39,154) including 22.5% buyer’s premium.

2022 – Sabatino Strikes Again

Sabatino Tartufi is looking to donate the truffle to a good cause. “Finding a truffle of this size provides an opportunity for us to give something back. When we auctioned the largest white truffle ever, we donated the proceeds to a number of charities we had strong ties to. This time around we would love to do the same.”
